Maria Miller MP samples the Loddon

Member of Parliament for Basingstoke, Maria Miller, took part in riverfly monitoring on the River Loddon last week as part of a visit to the site of two proposed flow gauging stations. She was accompanied on the visit by John Sutton, Environment Agency (EA) Fisheries Team Leader, and Alan Gibberd of Countrywatch.

Alan demonstrated the kick sampling technique used by local anglers to monitor the health of the river through the Riverfly Monitoring Initiative. Referring to Water Framework Directive targets Maria Miller MP said: "We know why the river is failing to meet its environmental objectives and it is important now that long-term improvements are put in place to meet these legal standards."
