Riverfly Underlays
When sorting through your sample, it can be handy to have something underneath your eight-segmented tray to mark out which segment is for which invertebrate, and remind yourself of the key features of each group.
You can buy a waterproof ready-made underlay mat produced by Riverfly trainer and volunteer Dr Richard Osmond on his website here.
Alternatively, the Riverfly Partnership has PDFs available below to download, print and laminate at home.
You can print, trim, laminate and join together the pages in these PDFs to form a waterproof underlay mat to put beneath your tray for the standard eight RMI groups.
If you take part in the Urban Riverfly scheme, we also have a version of the underlay mat that can be used for the Urban invertebrate groups. You can slot in different segments of the circle to match with the combination of invertebrates that come up in your sample.
And, if you have moved on to the Extended Riverfly scheme (and have enough of the eight-segment trays!), you can use our Extended underlay.
