Pet Treatments Info Note

The Freshwater Biological Association (host of the Riverfly Partnership) has published an info note examining how using flea treatments on pets may harm freshwater wildlife. Read it here.

It’s an interesting read, and includes advice on how pet owners can reduce the environmental impact of pet parasiticides. The chemicals in these treatments can have a big impact on invertebrate populations — if you carry out riverfly monitoring at a popular spot for dipping dogs, perhaps you have seen the effects.
